Work > Working Over Wood

Since its inception during the spring of 2012, Working Over Wood has been included in the 2012 Smithsonian Folk Life Festival in Washington, DC; the 2012 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa; the 2012 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa; and 621 Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida. The diversity of these venues, some of which are unconventional for fine art or for participatory collaboration, further highlights the interactive quality and spirit of the series. The venues also exposed the projects to a far larger number of people than had it remained simply in a museum or a gallery space. Literally, thousands of people interacted with Working over Wood at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and at the Iowa State Fair. Each of these venues attracted a wide variety of participants, and while logistics prohibited the creation of new magnets in any of these arenas, people could still create their own compositional narrative from the archived magnets.
