As a person who is allergic to overt public sentiment, these paintings have functioned for me as a kind of a personal journal over the last handful of years. I choreograph photographs and other found objects into a working collage, which acts as a drawing and reference for the final painting. The narrative that I construct is often serendipitous, with the gist of the work rising to the surface months after the painting is complete. Meaning lies on the edges, between things, and these juxtapositions create a space for the viewer to create his or her own myth.
